History
UniControls, a.s. was founded in 1991 by a group of engineers-specialists in the field of industrial control systems with wide experience in the development and supply of hardware and software for process control. At the present (III/2002) it has 140 employees, of which more than half of them have a university degree. Unicontrols continuously cooperates with a number of other Czech firms and universities, mainly in the field of research and development.
The company especially focuses on:
- design and supply of complete dispatching
control systems
- design and supply of industrial control systems
for extreme operating conditions and large plants
- complete supply of control and communication
systems of rail vehicles
- development and supply of computer modules,
hardware and software for communications in industry and transport in
accordance with current European standards
- software and development tools for application
programs
- design and manufacture of elements of equipment
of modern rail vehicles
- design and manufacture of unique electronic
modules and equipment for civil and military aircraft
Typical implemented solutions can be characterised by the following requirements:
- high number of inputs and outputs
- large distances between controlled technologies
requiring reliable long-distance data transmission
- extraordinary reliability
- high resistance to adverse environment
- a concept enabling maximum adaptation to the
client's requirements and future upgrade and extension of the existing
system
- possibility of supplies of communication bridges to interconnect
systems of various manufacturers
Innovative work of UniControls focuses on specific applications of control systems as well as on conceptual work to ensure UniControls systems compatibility with European standards. These activities represent about 30% to 35% of total volume of the company's work.
The innovation and development activities, both completed or in progress, include inter alia:
- complete solution of communication system and
modules for distributed control systems based on standardised European
industrial buses
- design of communication nodes and networks of
train and vehicle communications for train units according to IEC
61375-1 (WTB, MVB, CAN standards)
- development and implementation of
high-stability and precision modules for processing of both input and
output analog signals
- optimum assembly out of the choice of I/O
modules for control systems, fully compatible with both VME and CAN
standards
- development and application of system tools for
user configuration, diagnostics and maintenance of control systems
- development of universal modular controller for
control of medium to big traction motors, both DC and asynchronous
- development of telemetering nodes with
utilisation of GSM data transmission
- development of locomotive diagnostic system
- development of elements of passenger
information system (LED and DOT tables), displays of the driver's stand
and other HMI (Human Machine Interface) elements
- development of a computer and display for modular navigation system of a military helicopter, etc.
High technical standard of UniControls hardware is confirmed by the application of the company's computers and devices in both civil and military aircraft.
The company has its own means for development, manufacturing and testing of electronic components of the delivered products.
In the area of software, UniControls, Inc. especially utilizes the
UNICON, UNITRACK, UNICAN, and UNICAP system tools which cover the
application needs for the individual above-mentioned areas of activity of
the company.
Development work is carried out as much as possible in accordance with
international standards. The technical level of the solutions is
completely comparable to the production of top firms in the field of
control systems, as is demonstrated by the continually growing interest in
UniControls product supplies abroad. The hardware and software systems for
railway communication according to the newest international standard are
the example.

The quality system of the company, originally certified according to ISO 9001:1994 in 1998, was recertified in 2001 according to ČSN EN ISO 9001:2001 for design, production, installation and servicing of automated control system for applications in industry and transport and for development and implementation of hardware and software of these systems.The certificate is valid till 2004.

UniControls quality and environmental policy
follows the basic strategy of fulfilment of business objectives. Main
objective of the company is to establish and keep good position in
relevant market segment in the field of complex control systems.
UniControls is and wants to be an important and reliable supplier of
control and information systems for challenging industrial and transport
applications.
Satisfaction of customers with quality, reliability and effective price of
the delivered systems is a critical aspect affecting the fulfilment of the
main objective.
Flexible solutions must be a substantial feature of our systems and
permanent competitive advantage. Everlasting goal of the company is
continuous improvement of technical level and quality of its products,
production processes and business performance, with simultaneous
fulfilment of environmental requirements. Implementation of the quality
system according to ISO 9000 by subsidiary companies will contribute to
the fulfilment of the goal.
